The Rockies and Being Mentally Tough

In march you will hear a couple things on TV. Spring is on the way, the start up of baseball and most importantly how the Colorado Rockies is favored to win the west. Then come September all you hear is the Yankees and football. Between March and September what happened to the Rockies, simply put the Rockies are a mentally weak team.
There’s reason why baseball analysts state the Rockies are favored to win the west and possible be NL reps to the world series, on paper the Rockies are a great team, all the players have shown the ability to make game changing plays, however once the season starts the Rockies show they are a mentally weak team, when the pitching suffers the offense chokes and are unable to hit, and vice versa.
The Rockies started off amazingly this year, having the best record in baseball, but then they came to a hurdle, fell and slowly got back up (I do not think they fully recovered). You can also see this with in games, as soon as something bad happens with in a Rockies they fold, they can never get them selves back into a game.
The fans do not help either, as majority of the Denver fans that call in to the local sportsnshow constantly state how the Rockies suck. They will not live up to anything.
Those two aspects to me are important ideas to a teams mental toughness. A team is a brain, you need all parts of the team to fully work. If a part of the team does not function right then there are issues that a rise. A fan analogy, you have the chance. To win seats behind home plate, you let a pessimist friend know this and the friend constantly tells you there is no way you will win those, to a mentally weak person they will fold and give up to a mentally tough person they will keep trying to win those seats, it’s the same thing for the Rockies.

First Week of School and The Red Sox

First week of school has past.

Trying to read everything that needs to be read, I have found to be a bit tough, fortunately my in-laws will be watching of Little Mister while Andrea and I get to read/study tomorrow, that after or before going to my moms house to get things organized.

Now my purpose here is not to give everyone a blow by blow account of how schooling is going. Though, when I do get my doctorate degree, that information can be very helpful to other students wanting to go to the same path.

This is will focus on Sports and Sports teams. And what better team to focus on then BOSTON RED SOXS.

Started out with one of there worst starts in franchise history. They currently hold number 1 spot in the east. And the conquered the Texans at home. This shows me that the Red Sox are on target to be a true competition in the playoffs, dear I say they could be the AL team to beat?

Right now the Red Sox have won there seires against the Yankees, knock on wood this continues. They conquered, at least this last series, against the Rangers. This is important because, besides game one, they dominated a team that consistently made the Red Sox look like Little League. That seiries showed fans that the Red Sox are able to look past major road blocks in the past. Hell I read an article stating the Red Sox would get swept because of how horrible they have done against reighning Al Championship team.

That alone could make a team suck due to their consistent failures in the past. But a team like the Rockies…

First two days of school

I just completed the first two days of school. Even though I have many more I am excited about the possibilities that awaits me as I complete my journey of becoming a sports psychologist.

My first day it was reading the syllabus. No lectures, just watched teachers pass out e syllabus then read it word for word off of a projector. Today I had my biology lab. In which we looked into micro scopes.

Not much else to report. Just extremely tired as I only received five hours of sleep due to Carl having a cold.

Team’s Personality

A championship team will have a distinct personality to it.  The team may have a serious intimidation to it, that has an explosive defense or a team may have an effortless excitement that dominates offensively.  The important aspect to this is to understand and embrace the personality. If a team looses sight on this you will see the team fail.

A Bit About Me

My name is Joseph Chaisson.

I was working at Turning Point, a non-profit organization working with adolescent who have drug and alcohol issues as well as criminal backgrounds. While working at Turning Point I realized that working with addiction, though highly important, was not for me. I then found out that there is a Sport Psychology occupation. I have been doing research and gearing my self towards that career.

Why Sports Psychology?

I have loved sports as long as I can remember. I have often fantasized about being a Quarterback for the Miami Dolphins. There is one issue, I have no talent in sports at all (there could be an argument that I still could be a QB for the Dolphins). When I found out that there is a career out there that i could mingle two of my loves, sports and psychology I knew thats where I had to go.

My career goal is to work for either a Major League Baseball team or a National Football League team.

Personal Life

I reside Colorado, I have a beautiful wife an amazing son with another son on the way. I have a brother and sister in law who resides in Maine as well as my father and step mother, I have both a step sister and step brother. My mother just recently past away so  I am dedicating this journey to her. My family is my world.

About This Page

I am currently on my journey to get my doctorate in sports psychology. I recently was excepted as a transfer student to Colorado State University where I start in a couple weeks. I come in as sophomore/junior, so I have a ways to go. I hope to use this site as a journal that helps me through this long journey.

I am also dedicating this site to my mom, Anne Chaisson, who past away on Sunday july 31st. She was extremely excited that I was going to CSU and proud that my goal was to get a doctorate in sports psychology.
